Mondo Cinese

È tutta seta ciò che luccica? - Numero 165-166

The realization of this volume of Chinese World dedicated to the New Silk Road, or Belt and Road Initiative (Bri) in the now more common term, has been particularly disturbed. The idea of dedicating a monograph to the study of the Chinese initiative had seemed to us, since 2017, an important opportunity for reflection on contemporary China and our relations with this country in a rapidly changing political and economic-commercial context.

The events, however, followed one another with unusual speed and the global geopolitical context changed in an unpredictable way just as we dedicated ourselves to writing the articles. The news took over and we decided to slow down the output of the volume waiting for the time spent to set the necessary distance. This also led to an overlap with another issue of the current magazine, dedicated to some aspects of the leadership of President Xi Jinping: hence the decision to combine the two volumes into one which, although mainly dedicated to relations between Italy and China along the new silk road also includes some contributions on China's current political leadership.
