Liu Bolin, the Invisible Man's Exhibition in Rome under the patronage of the Foundation

Liu Bolin, the artist of Chinese origin called "the invisible man", has achieved international fame as the one who has made camouflage his distinctive trait. Remaining motionless as a living sculpture, Bolin integrates his body with the context behind him thanks to a careful body-painting and finally makes himself photographed.

It is 2005: the Beijing administration orders to demolish the Suojia Village district, where many critics live with the government. Liu Bolin, born in 1973 and at the beginning of his career as an artist, camouflages himself with the rubble of his studio, makes himself photographed and discloses the photo giving way to a silent and "transparent" protest, while at the same time receiving an unexpected success.

Thus began the extraordinary career of one of the most talented and interesting contemporary artists, able to hide strong social messages through seemingly simple images, in a synthesis of multiple languages such as painting, installation and photography. His performances are intended to be a strong and clear message of what is happening in the present, between the weight of history and the consequences of progress.

Over time, Liu Bolin is photographed in front of the world's most important monuments, bookstores, supermarket shelves, works of art, mountains of waste and immigrants; his fame grows until his images become an icon for the big brands: one for all Moncler, who uses for several seasons a camouflage by Liu Bolin to advertise his own brand, but also Tod's, Ferrari and many others.

The exhibition at the Vittoriano tells the story of Liu Bolin, from the first performance in Beijing to the most recent shots of 2017 at the Royal Palace of Caserta and the Colosseum, specially made for the Roman exhibition and exhibited here in world premiere.

Under the patronage of the Lazio Region and Rome Capital - Department for Cultural Growth and that of the Italy China Foundation, the exhibition is produced and organized by Gruppo Arthemisia in collaboration with the Galleria Boxart, and is curated by Raffaele Gavarro.

Sponsor Generali Italia, Trenitalia technical sponsor. The event is recommended by Sky Arte HD.
