Outside the Ivory Tower: Guangzhou a Milano

During the Fuorisalone 2018 the Formentini workshop for the Publishing industry hosts from April 17 to 22 the exhibition / event "Outside the Ivory Tower: creativity makes a better life", organized by the union between the Guangzhou National Advertising Industrial Park and the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (GAFA), which together form one of the most avant-garde realities of southern China in the field of design and advertising industry, where they perfectly integrate industrial, university and research development. The event is organized under the patronage of the Italy-China Foundation.
A unique networking opportunity for companies, agencies, professionals and universities, which has already undergone the emergence of numerous brands and design projects on an international, state and local scale and which looks with increasing interest to the talents of the Italian cultural industry with a view to investments and partnerships.

Curated by designer and creator Cao Xue, head of the Guangzhou National Advertising Industry Park, Dean of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts School of Visual Arts and Design, as well as director of the Asian Institute of Visual Culture, organized in collaboration with TVN Media Group and sponsored from the Italy-China Foundation, the Milan exhibition / event presents a synergistic "ecosystem", a reflection of a country that is increasingly protagonist in the global market, which aspires to the role of first industrial power by 2049 (year of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the People's Republic of China) and, under the pressure of the "Made in China 2025" plan, is aiming at a decisive rethinking of its industry.

In the heart of Brera there is an innovative overview on what, in effect, can be considered as the "Silicon Valley of the East", a leading hub in the field of art, design and advertising, able to synthesize the essence of Chinese philosophy and culture through unique creative concepts.

Time development, regional culture, urban construction and life aesthetic are the cardinal points along which the exhibition project dedicated to the Guangzhou area unfolds. On show the renderings of future urban developments in the Guangzhou area, video, as well as design objects such as the Funnel 2in1 Funnel Funnel (Reddort Awards 2016) by Zhang Jiang, professor of Industrial Design at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and considered one of the leading Chinese industrial designers, or the new logo of the city of Guangzhou designed by Cao Xue and which highlights the style of an international, modern and intelligent city: the tower, reference of the city, is similar to the sails of boats and birds, symbols of displacement par excellence.

Industry Park and GAFA have succeeded in creating an extraordinary process of integration between business and education, industry and academy in China. It is thanks to the connection between theory and practice that the dualism between inside and outside the tower is overcome: the internal and external resources of the academy interact with each other, on the same level, to reach the final realization of a project.

The Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (GAFA), the academy of art and design located in the south of China, in a strategic position with respect to Hong Kong and Macau, in recent years has actively contributed to the economic and cultural development not only of Guangdong, but of whole China. The area has become a pioneering center for the Design department, developing all the stages of the supply chain, from the conception to the final realization.
The Guangzhou National Advertising Industrial Park, a government project, center of economy and advertising, the first of its kind to lean on a university, is divided into two zones (A and B): zone A rests on the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, in which the main building is located, while the B area is based on the Guangzhou International Media Harbor, the new headquarters of the Guangzhou Radio and Television station, operational since August 2015.

The result is a state-of-the-art reality combining industry, education, design and advertising, which today has 15 companies specializing in various fields, such as publishing (SANDU Cultural Media), design (Guangzhou Jimei Design Engineering, Guangzhou College of Fine Arts Furniture Design & Research Institute; Fang Suo Commune), marketing (Guangdong Insight Brand Marketing Group), creativity (GAFA & Yulan Creative Institute of Furnishings Art), advertising (Mixmind Art & Design Co).
